Outreach Updates
Our Summer 2020 Outreach Coordinators were Olivia Curran (GWU'23) and Morgan Miller (GWU'23)
This summer alone, Fiesta4Hope's Team was able to secure $47,741 for our causes
BLM Fundraiser June 2020
In support of the Black Lives Matter Movement, Fiesta4Hope chose to raise funds for the Children’s Defense Fund, an organization that works to support marginalized children’s needs, specifically education. Virtually, over the course of a few weeks, we raised $395 together! We are so thankful for our Fiesta team and supporters who posted our fundraiser on their social media accounts to raise awareness for lacking education in minority communities. With everyone's support, we can keep making valuable changes. In addition, we were able to have one of our own interns, Amaya McDonald, interview the Executive Vice President of George Washington University’s Black Student Union, Peyton Wilson. Through this educational conversation, we were better able to understand how we can help the Black Lives Matter movement and support groups like the GW Black Student Union. A recording of this meeting can be watched here or on the BLM article that can be found in our newsletter.
Trivia Night Fundraiser July 2020
On July 22, Fiesta4Hope hosted a Zoom-Kahoot Trivia Night. The event was themed Pop Culture and 34 players attended. The winner, Emily Pintarelli, was awarded a $25 Amazon Gift Card. In total, the event raised $225.00. The logistics of this Trivia Night were organized entirely by our Creative Team (Cara Chang, Mia Chang, Erin Altenbach, and Nikki Delagente).
Amazon Smile July 2020
Outreach is excited to announce that supporters are now able to select Fiesta4Hope, Inc. as their designated nonprofit to support through Amazon Smile.
Amazon Smile is a function that allows shoppers to donate with every purchase, without having to pay an extra fee. Amazon donates a portion of the cost of select purchases to the nonprofit that you choose. To support Fiesta4Hope, Inc., shoppers would need to access Amazon through smile.amazon.com and type in 'Fiesta4Hope, Inc.'
Grant Updates August 2020
The government-funded power grid in Puerto Rico is unreliable—power outages are frequent. The recent series of earthquakes, reaching a magnitude of 6.4, caused an island-wide blackout, leaving PASO in the dark and unable to help their community. Fiesta4Hope is committed to supporting self-sufficient development in Aibonito, solar energy being an essential step in achieving this goal.
We are excited to announce that Fiesta4Hope secured a $25,000 dollar grant for Centro PASO from the Left Coast Fund's Solar Moonshot Program. This is a philanthropy program that works with Hammond Climate Solutions to invest in ways to stop the climate crisis. We also received $22,116 from the BQuest Foundation, another affiliate of Hammond Climate Solutions who is dedicated to expanding the use of renewable energy sources.
We will use these grants, totaling in $47,116 to make Centro PASO a solar-powered community center. With solar energy, Centro PASO will be able to provide much-needed services to their community when they need it most. The Solar Moonshot Program grant and BQuest Foundation grant will help provide Centro PASO with reliable, sustainable power to better serve their community in times of crisis. We are still actively seeking funds to cover the remaining installation costs.
